Vitamins and minerals contained
What does cod meat contain, we have already said. But what do the other ingredients in this recipe contain?
Brown rice serves as a fibre-rich side dish in this recipe. It contains a certain amount of magnesium, gelatin or manganese, as well as B vitamins.
Lamb’s lettuce contains vitamins A, C and K and folic acid. Of the minerals, magnesium, calcium, iron and potassium, for example, can be found. Carrots supplement the dog with vitamin C, E and selenium and have antioxidants and beta-carotene.
Olive oil provides the dog with the necessary amount of fatty acids and vitamins, is good for supporting the cardiovascular system and helps to slow down the aging of brain cells. The VetAminex vitamin and mineral formula contains a complete set of vitamins and minerals that will beautifully complement the pet’s daily diet and especially home cooked food. Ground eggshells for dogs serve as a substitute for raw bones and are a great source of calcium.
Procedure
Remove the frozen minced codfish from the bag and place it in the prepared pot so that you can steam it. Once cooked, allow the meat to cool or place it in a bag in ice to cause a rapid change in temperature. The meat then has a more pronounced flavour.
Brown rice needs to be cooked thoroughly before it is served to the dog so that he can digest it well. So cook for a longer time than ordinary rice.
Again, it is important to prepare the lamb’s lettuce well so that the dog can digest it easily. There are several options – either grind the vegetable very well into the smallest possible pieces or boil it straight away with hot water. Steam the carrots, similar to the meat, and cook until soft.
When all the ingredients have cooled, pack the food into freezer bags and freeze. Add supplements to the food on the day it is fed to the dog.
Daily dose of cooked food for a dog
At the start of the cooked diet, it is advisable to follow the recommended daily dose for dogs, which is 2-3% of the dog’s body weight. Over time, however, it is important to monitor the dog to ensure that it is still at the required weight and adjust the amount accordingly.
This is the recommended daily ration for a 10 kg dog at a daily feeding rate of 250 g. The recipe follows the recommended ratio of ingredients: 65 % meat, 25 % vegetables and 10 % side dishes. We recommend using a kitchen scale to weigh the required amount of food. For dogs with sensitive digestion, it is advisable to divide the daily dose into smaller portions and feed more times a day (2x – 3x).
